Bristol, is that a Karrier appliance on the left? I'm trying to work out what you used the sprayer thing on the shelf above the nearside hose reel for? Is that a yellow fog lamp on the Beddy?! Would have had some fun with that! Was the ceiling ladder to get atop the machine, because there doesn't look much room there on the back of the appliance (back step) to scamper above, , We had black leggings too in New Zealand in the 60's.

It's a Bedford TK/Carmichael, The sprayer is in fact a hosereel foam unit and the ladder is the short extension which was carried on the offside of the roof. That's the gong on the front of the Bedford.

May I answer this one ? 999 PHY was a Bedford TK/Carmichael of 1962 vintage, which was written-off in an acident circa 1970.

The sprayer thing is a foam extinguisher , the hatch or short extension goes on the roof and its a bell not a lamp , I used to drive one of these

VHT 646 looks like a standard Bedford Hawson van. It seems a bit small compared to hose layers used by other brigades back then. Was it a brigade workshop conversion?

Bristol Bob - is it true Bristol had a Bedford TK emergency tender bodied by Bonallack. If so do you have details or a photo. Is this the same Bonallack's coachbuilder founded in E London early in 19thC. Their workshop in Stratford was converted in 1906 to Stratford fire station extension, West Ham FB. I have a photo of Bonallacks at the building before 1906.
