These were nice trucks...Toronto had three of them, all located in the downtown area of Toronto before the amalgemation....

Saddly all three of these units are gone now....sitting for sale in a farm field in Ontario...

Toronto had a lot of Mack M series at the time. I think they may still have a High Rise Unit on their roster. FDNY still has theirs, along with some Satellite Tenders and perhaps also a Foam Truck.

Hey Rob,

I can confirm that Toronto does NOT have a Mac M as their highrise unit......they upgraded their fleet more than a few years ago, and while the Highrise was one of the last to get upgraded....it has been done as well.........

I do agree that at one point Toronto ( pre amalgamation ) had a boat load of the Macs.....everything from Aerials and Pumps to Highrise and Hazmat.....uniquely, Etobicoke used to run Peterbuilt cabovers...more often seen as garbage trucks....lol

Jay - I always thought it was a shame Renault took Mack out of the fire apparatus business shortly after they acquired the company.

Most of the firefighters I have talked to in departments which operated Macks really loved them - and there are quite a good number in preservation, not to mention some quite elderly units still in daily use in South America!

True, they were expensive, but they were so reliable and so durable that in some ways they made an idea fire apparatus chassis.
