Marcel, this is some structure the Command Post is housed in, it looks like it could withstand a Cat 5 Cyclone (Yasi) like we have just experienced here in Australia?! Are you able to update us on whether this was always a 'fire shed' or built for some other purpose, thanks.

Pavel, I'm affraid I can't help you with this information. The shed is at the back of the Fire Hall 2 on the training yard. This unit is not often used by the Fire department. The city is using it more.
By the way were you in the danger zone in Australia ?

Marcel, fortunately not as I am in Perth on the west coast and TC Yasi hit the north east coast in Queensland and then continued on inland. Last week we were on alert for Tropical Cyclone Bianca (Cat 3) that passed to the west of us bringing strong winds and thunderstorms. The Life Savers rescued 170 people from the Metropolitan beaches in one day! Unfortunately a young teenage girl was killed when she stood on a fallen power line and her two friends were seriously burnt and injured when they went to her aid.

Hi Pavel, I saw on the television that there are bush fires around Perth now. Hopefully you will staying safe.

Hi Marcel, yes we have had some devastating bush fires around the Perth Hills area fanned by high winds with 68 homes destroyed in one fire alone. I can't remember the last time we lost that many houses? Fortunately no lives have been lost. There are 200+ fire fighters battling the blazes with additional specialist crews coming from Eastern Australia and two more heli-tankers to add to the air resources here. It appears the worst fire was started by someone using an angle grinder. Unfortunately the large trees and bush grows right up to the houses and it is a recipe for disaster.
