Iveco Magirus Vario TL Springfield Station Belfast

Taken outside Springfield Station in Belfast in June 1989, this appliance was new to the fleet and was actually on its way to Londonderry to begin service there.

This has an unusually long crew cab, especially for a turntable ladder truck. It looks as if it could accommodate around eleven firefighters!

It may be an IVECO factory crew cab rather than being fabricated by Carmichael, as IVECO-Magirus built a large number of nine-man cabs on the Club of Four cab for LF and LF-TS pumpers in Germany. But why such a huge cab on a ladder? Most brigades never crew them with more than two men these days.

Hi Rob!Yes, it's a standard nine-man cab from Iveco!

I think is standard cab by IVECO, Hong Kong had identical TL but are only crewed by 4 and later 3

Rob ... Just a thought on the full crew cab. Bearing in mind that the 'Troubles' in Northern Ireland were far from resolved in 1989, and the lads in the Northern Ireland Fire Authority had some very difficult situations and all manner of challenges to deal with when attending incidents, perhaps the Fire Authority had very good reason at that time to order this version other than it simply coming as the standard cab? Did Northern Ireland not also run with higher appliance manning levels at this time which would perhaps account for this new TL requiring a larger cab? It would be good to hear from one or two of our readers in Northern Ireland on this.

Tokyo also had similar TTL but 37m I think, same as Hong-Kong

JP. Apart from several Unimogs, I believe a few Magirus ladders were the only imported fire trucks in Japan in recent decades.
