This typical street scene demonstrates why Japanese fire appliances are so small - just look at the width of that street this Hino pumper is parked in.
There is another (unfortunate) feature shown clearly in his photo, which is typical of Japanese towns and cities, posing another headache for firefighters, and that is the forest of overhead wires festooning the streets.
On a positive note, these two firefighters are not far from being able to buy a smoke or a refreshing beverage - or in Japan practically anything else - from the vending machines, which are almost everywhere.
This one does confirm the saying that "a picture is worth a thousand words"...
