In Japanese fire service parlance, a chemical pumper is what we would call a foam pumper. Class B foam is carried on a limited number of pumpers in Tokyo, usually one at each station, and these units can equally well pump plain water. They usually are included in structure fire first response assignments, as well as all identified hydrocarbon risk locations and vehicle fires.
Because of the foam tank, proportioning equipment and special branches, they tend to be larger than conventional pumpers. They are otherwise equipped like a normal pumper, but without any ground ladders, and they also run with a five man crew.
