Fire Engines Photos

Nice to see the photo of inside Dennis's garage. I knew Dennis well and he is sorely missed.
The number plate NCB 100 was the registration plate of his own Dennis fire engine, ex Blackburn.

Thats not the abandoned Sunderland Airport one mind. Its former Durham County Fire Brigade, LUP463 from Hebburn that was reduced to spares. The Sunderland one was BBR501, an F7. R.I.P. Dennis

I have the original (damaged) Dennis nameplate from BBR501 which served at Sunderland Airport. I found it in a heap of rubbish in the former airport fire station / control tower in 1984 before it was pulled down to make way for the Nissan factory. BBR501 was displayed at the NE A/C Museum at one time (with a replacement nameplate) but was only ever on loan and was eventually removed and scrapped. I also have the fire bell from the airport fire station too - found at the same time as the nameplate! When I found these things the museum weren't interested in having them so I claimed them for myself, otherwise they would have been dumped in a rubbish skip and lost.
