This is a command van, but these were also used extensively in Slovakia as light pumps by volunteer fire companies in small towns and villages. The design was based on a standard chassis cab like this, but with a rear body incorporating a crew compartment, a rear mounted portable pump and lockers for hoses, etc. Although many are still in use, they are being rapidly displaced by Iveco Daily 7 ton crew cab designs with THT bodywork. These are very similar to the German TSF-W design, with a portable pump preconnected to a small (500+/- ?) litre tank.
They are often housed alongside Tatra 6X6 tankers, which carry 8000 or 10000 liters, depending on which generation they are. Examples of these are on this site's Slovakia section...
The Daily 7 ton appliance is also illustrated on this site in the Iveco section.
picture 20217 illustrates the current Tatra 6X6 tanker - a quite modern design with excellent off road performance. But a load of very old ones are still in daily use in several countries, a testimony to their design and durability under what are often quite adverse operating conditions.
