MAN WA54 MZV Devon and Somerset FRS
This is a driver training vehicle for the Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, newer than some on the appliances within this service, in Somerset. It is an ex-Devon applaince as the website address gives it away on the rear roller shutter. However me thinks this is the old Ashburton appliance (i stand corrected) which has been replaced with a brand 59 plate, which poses me to ask the correction why is this appliance been replaced when it has years of service left. I think Mike its to do with the fact Diriver Training/EFAD appliances do a lot more miles than machines on some retained stations or some reserve appliances. Also some modern appliances (such as the "All Wales Pump") do not seem as reliable as older machines. A registration plate does not guarantee reliabilty!

Somerset started doing this just before they merged i.e having newer machines as reserve pumps. The reserves were Volvos and this was because at the time only this type of appliance had stowage to carry the PPV fans. I can remember the days if you were HGV trained and an EFAD driver then it was expected that you should be able to get into any appliance and drive it not just the type that are on the run as the normal appliance at your station. Very true the comment about a registration plate necessarily guarantees reliability.
