I served in the UKAEA Constabulary at Harwell. The fire station was at the rear of the police station at the main gate. (now both sadly demolished). If you were on main gate duty and the bells went down you had to put the exit barrier up in double quick time as there was a 50% chance that the brigade would be going off site and they wouldn't stop if the barrier was still down!

I was a Laboratory Trainee at Harwell between 1987-1990 and I remember the convoy of emergency vehicles travelling through the site usually to attend fire alarms but I remember once seeing a waste skip on fire between the Dido and Pluto reactor buildings.
At the time, the Harwell FB had the Commer/HCB-Angus WrL, a Bedford TK/HCB-Angus WrT/CO2T, a Freight Rover Sherpa GPV (which carried air-bags & BA cylinders), two Bedford CF ambulances and a Vauxhall Chevette saloon car for the CFO.
The UKAEA Constabulary at the time had a Range Rover, a Land Rover 88", a Freight Rover Sherpa mini-bus, a 4x4 SWB Ford Transit mini-bus and a Vauxhall Chevette saloon car (all in dark blue livery).
Both Sherpas were replaced by H-reg', SWB, Ford Transits; fire got a red van and the police got a blue mini-bus.
