I believe original coach work was by Mulliners Bridge St. Northampton. The cab top was removed to allow access to a old garage the original "Fire Station" at front of the factory, the garage was demolished in the early sixties. The blue light was on bar which could be lower for the same reason, this was still the same when the engine finished service at factory several years later. The Commer was replaced by a B.L. Sherpa conversion, which I think went to Eastern Europe when it finished service at British Timken.As anyone any news about the Sherpa.

Duston Coachworks restored this vehicle in the early 1980's and it was in the Northampton Carnival in 1981 and I know there is a photo of this. My father bought it from British Timkem and after going to a few fire engine shows it stood in the yard of Duston Coachworks until it was bought by a fireman who wanted to show it and restore it further. I remember travelling to events and the lack of indicators having to use all the hand signals. Many happy memories and would love to see it again.

The last I heard the vehicle is now owned by a Scrap Yard / Metal Recycle Dealer, with premises somewhere in Bedfordshire near Lavendon or Harold. That is unless it has been sold on again.

I remember it being sold for £700 with 1700 miles on the clock but I think the Coventry climax trailer pump being kept back in about 1973 when I worked there....remember a small roof fire in the factory and the commers water jet not reaching had to call out the fire service think that was its death knell.

This would have been "One of" or "The" Fire Engine that my Dad used as he was a Fireman at Timken in the late 50s/60s. Dad then left and wprked other jobs before being back at Timken from about 1983-1999 the year of his retirement but as a Workshop Supervisor/Bearing/Machine Operator. Lovely to see this old Fire Engine!

Hi we used this beautiful engine for our wedding transport in 1993 it belonged to our neighbor Gordon who was a fireman great engine fond memories love to have another ride in it

I was a member of the Timken brigade back in 1977 to 1984 and the old girl was passed on to Duston coach works as we had a new appliance a Leyland Sherpa. Chief officer was Maurice Collins who lived in Kislingbury
