This is a VASV for "Véhicule d'Assistance et de Secours aux Victimes", a kind of ambulance, but without doctor inside. If a doctor come on a vehicle, this is an AR for "Ambulance de Réanimation". Firemen system in France is very special for foreign peoples !!!

The long wheelbase Renault Master high roof panel van is very popular as an ambulance in France, not only because it is a local product but also because it is front wheel drive, which helps insure a nice low floor and loading height, compared for example to a Sprinter...

BSPP operate well over 130 of these, as well as more than 100 of their unique emeregency ambulance and light pumper combination units, many of which are also to be seen on this site.

All french fire services, both military and departmental, operate the principal emergency ambulance service, and additional resources are provided by the SAMU organization - which is more focused on medical care than trauma response.
