Cheshire Scania ALP
Scania E717 SON, began life as a demonstrator, then bought by Cheshire Fire Brigade, it was replaced by Volvo CPL N65 DEM that was purchased from Merseyside, and the Scania then went to New Zealand where it was stationed at Christchurch where it has recently been replaced by a Merceds Benz Econic ALP

Are you saying it was re-registered from the BCW.101 which of course it first gained in New Zealand ?

This machine brings back both happy and sad memories. At the time of the 911 atrocity, Cheshire had just bought from Merseyside the Volvo ALP to replace this machine. All watches had been trained on the new appliance and this machine was now spare. Following 911 much charity fund raising was organised and we in Chester decided to play our part.
This machine was parked outside Chester Town Hall (in the October)and elevated and extended to full working height.
I lived in the cage continally, a full 48 hours providing a focal point for the street collections.
Fortunately the weather was dry and sunny but it became very cold at night.
Both on duty and off duty as well as retired fire-fighters supported by volunteers collected on the streets of the City. The event received magnificent support from the public and local business. Some months later I was able to attend the American Embassy in London to present a cheque from Cheshire FRS; totalling £64, 000. Chester raised £32, 000 for FDNY Widows and Orphans.
The additional £32, 000 being raised by the remaining Cheshire Fire Stations.
A very very emotionally draining event!
