The Siren was in fact replaced just weeks before Chester City passed into Cheshire on April 1st 1974.I can recall replacement two -tones being fitted by mechanic Stan Goode.
This machine was therefore the only City machine to run with two-tones.

Another point worthy of note was that the crests, brigade name and Councillors name plates (older machines only) lasted no more that 5 minutes into the "New Cheshire Fire Brigade" as a team from workshops were on the case soon after 0900 on April 1st 1974.It was hardly surprising then, that most of the City lads continued to wear the City cap badge for a number of years following LGR. After all the Old County badge was just as obsolete!
A new style badge was issued some years later.

Reminds me of the "Hellrot" which was quite popular around the same time with quite a few German fire services.

Despite its rather appalling name, all this means in German is "light red!"
