Trabant 601 built by Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau.
This car was built by the men of the volunteer fire department of Annaber-Buchholz and it is used as a promotional vehicle.

Certainly not a first response unit!

The "Trabi" was built of pressed plastic panels and powered by a two stroke 600 cc engine with around 29 BHP. They had an amazingly high level of very stinky exhaust emissions and could be smelled from several hundred meters away.

Introduced in 1957, they lasted until the Wall came down in 1990, and were then built for another year with a VW engine until they deservedly just died away.

The top speed was claimed to be 62 MPH, but nobody had enough time to sit in the car long enough to see if it could actually accelerate to this speed...
