Fire Engines Photos

Wonderful photo as usual Peter. Yes, she was the final City of Birmingham fire engine to enter service when she was allocated to Albion Street, the forerunner of Ladywood. Transferred to Bournbrook in 1977 when Ladywood had ERF 84CS/ERF Firefighter/ Simon SS85' POB982R allocated. Replaced ERF 84RS/Jennings Simon SS85' ROA625G at Albion Street which was reallocated to Aston.

A final vehicle to be allocated to Central was a Range Rover SOA504M.

Hey Andy, lets not get mixed up here! Albion Street Fire Station closed in March 1968 and was a two bay station in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter with Pump and Pump Escape only. Even those were a tight fit into the engine house bays. It was replaced by Ladywood Fire Station on Rotten Park Road and for a few months the two stations ran in tandem with one machine at each. Birmingham's first hydraulic platform (ROA652G) came to Ladywood in about 1969 and I was one of the first to drive/operate it. I was at Albion Street and Ladywood throughout the period 1966-1972 before transferring back to Wales. I have many happy memories of both stations, the appliances and especially my colleagues there.

Nice picture, sad that in 2016 its languishing in some woods in Staffordshire, mostly complete but looking rather sorry for itself.

Please can anyone on this site answer the following please was this appliance equipped with a bell, was it supplied in Birmingham markings, did it ever go dayglow west Midlands. What size engine 540 or 640 auto or manual

Nobody noticed the 'deliberate' mistake in my comment of May 14. Must be senility setting in. Ladyood Fire Stn is of course on Icknield Port Road, Ladywood rather than Rotten Park Road.

I have a special interest in this appliance, has anyone got an original photo of this appliance when delivered to Birmingham Fire Ambulance Service new more than when it was with West Midlands fire service. The most tragic days of Birmingham Cities history was the pub bombings and the poor innocent people who lost there lives and the extremely difficult job the brigade had in dealing with this cruel massacre. Can anyone inform me if this appliance was in the PDA. are there any ex Birmingham fireman who visit this website perhaps Taff.

Hi guys the appliance was still in the woods - last year someone on a fire engine page tried to buy her but the owners son stepped in and said something like this - its not for sale. So I assume shes still there and about to be broken up into a thousand pieces.

This fire engine was used in the Children's show 'Brum'. It was used within Series 1, Episode 1, which can currently be watched on the BBC iplayer.

are you sure about this? Having watched this episode of Brum (!) the platform is labelled SS263 quite clearly but POA looks like an 85' to me not an SS263. The platform has a completely different shape. See this example
