Glenelg Fire Station Highlands & Islands

One of a number of 'temporary' buildings provided by the Highlands & Islands Fire Brigade when units were upgraded fron non mobile to retained status in 2004/5. Prior to 2004 the Glenelg volunteers were issued with a a small amount of basic portable fire fighting equipment that was housed in a garden shed. The current appliance (illustrated elsewhere on this site) is a LDV Light Fire Appliance. In addition to providing cover to the remote Glenelg peninsular the unit also attends incidents on the main A87 that is reached by way of a tortuous single track road that climbs over 1100 ft in less than a mile. The unit responded to 12 incidents in the period April 2008 to March 2009.
