Benz 816D Light Rescue Unit

Just arrived at Hong Kong, this is one of the 6 new Light Rescue Units (LRU) having the new yellow-and-red livery. It was entering the workshop for check-up before commissioning into service. The new vehicles will replace 815D.

Now that the Vario has been discontinued, Mercedes and such fire truck builders as Rosenbauer are pushing the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter as its replacement. This newer forward control design boasts very high payload capacities, as it is considerably lighter than the older Vario design. They are of course, already widely used by fire services all over Japan and the Far East.
