taken about 1975 as St Helens joined Merseyside FB but still in the unique livery - this is Parr Stocks Rd station. Cocker were a local bodybuilder. AEC TL to rear.
We had three of these Leyland Bevers at St.Hlens each bodied by differant coach builders. First was Water Tender HDJ244J built by Carmichles of Worstershire. then Water Ladder SDJ78L built by Cockers of Southport and finaly Water tender Ladder UDJ752L biult by Woodwards of Formby. We also had a Orbitor HP on a Leyland Beaver chassis. The colour was the result of the then Chief Fire Officer George Wilson asking the local college to look at the best colour for night time visibility and they came up with White. A Red stripe was also added. Other reserve appliances were also white only ODJ 311 and the HP were left Red. I drove all three of these appliances on many a shout and boy could they shift, Five speed manual box.
