Does anyone know if the Ford Foam Tender DLK 8 J still exists, or has it been scrapped?

Great photo Roger. I am admin for a group on Facebook "Heathrow Fire Past and Present" and was wondering if you would object to this photo being used on the group page?

With the Ford and Commer this is an unusual line up photo for an LFB station...

The D1617 was usually operated by fire brigades as either a Snorkel or - like this example - as a foam pumper where its 16 ton GVW could handle the increased weight of an oversized tank. Greater Manchester did operate them as pump water tenders, because in the early years the only way to get a D series with a 170 BHP Perkins V8 Diesel engine was to buy a 16 ton version. Ford SVO then developed a specific fire service chassis, by squeezing the big V8 into a 13 ton frame, giving birth to the 1317 which became the best seller in later years.

More than thirty brigades bought D series, including quite a few standard chassis for all sorts of applications, as well as a variety of SVO variants with normally aspirated or turbocharged engines as well as the first deliveries, which had specially imported Canadian petrol power units.
