Back in 1983 I followed this along the route of the Tyne Tees run because I didn't then know the Rally's route. Half way along it pulled into an industrial estate where I secured this picture.

A pump escape towing a trailer pump. Now that is an unusual sight!

Some of the wartime Home Office escape carriers on Austin and Fordson chassis towed trailer pumps, until the front-mounted Barton American pumps started to be fitted to them - but I have never seen or heard of British brigades towing them around since then.

Certainly did not make slipping the escape ladder any quicker...

Dennis Light Four GXN 782 was ordered with escape and towbar for trailer pump (but that was before...)

This is a preserved appliance. The owner also had a Sigmund trailer pump so he used one to tow the other to shows.

Peter - did the Dennis have its own pump, or was the trailer its only one?

Hi Rob, yes 350/500 gallon Dennis pump driven by PTO.
