Almost all TFD units are solid red. These and the other Isuzu and Hino rescue squad trucks with their distinctive white zigzag "lightning flash" paint are the sole exceptions.

I am told this is to distinguish them from pumpers at an incident, as they are otherwise often very similar looking.

Rescue personnel also wear different and quite distinctive orange uniforms, and have different tasks than regular firefighters - similar to the specialization and role separation typical of North American fire departments' rescue companies.
