Frank: This has an unusual combination of slam lockers and roller shutters, but it does seem to be a good way of maximizing storage space. The upper rear space is presumably for pre-connected flaked hoses accessed from the rear next to the pump bay - a very sensible and still common practice in Australia and New Zealand to this day.

Two other observations:

- There appear to be no ladder gantries, suggesting this did not carry any ground ladders at all.

- The gigantic "roo bar" on the front looks like it was designed to protect the machine from rogue elephants escaping from the local zoo. Isn't this a bit of overkill on a metropolitan city appliance?

Rob, it was used as a pumper for giving large quantity of water and not as a first turn out machine, hence no ladder. Can't remember the locker storage and no idea if it stored flaked hoses. Roo bar it says it all ;)
