The Country Fire Authority is the Fire Service for Victoria that doesn't include the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board District around the Capital Melbourne. The Country Fire Authority has over 1200 brigades through out the state primarily staffed by over 58, 000+ Volunteers but also by just over 1000+ very competent full time staff fire fighters. The CFA has very Urban to very Rural areas to cover. Covering Wildfire through Structure Fire, HAZMAT and Heavy Rescue. To make a comment the CFA is the rural fire brigade around Melbourne is very offensive to some people. www.cfa.vic.gov.au is the official website.

Well said Sam & Fletch. Perhaps we should mention it was built by Varley of New South Wales and the pump is powered by a Hatz-diesel rated at 900 lpm @ 700 KPA. Also shown on the photograph is the crew protection deluge system fitted around the roof and sides of the vehicle. This is operated from inside the cab in case of a burnover. A terrifying experience.

CFA is yet another example of a very efficient and highly regarded fire service which operates almost exclusively with unpaid volunteers, except in a small number of large towns which have paid full time staff, still supported by volunteers.
