The truck is a Mercedes Benz L1500 and carries a standard 17m Metz ladder readily identified by the box construction and half moon cogged cradle on which it moves-one might compare it with the many Leyland Metz 30m TLs from the 1930s in the UK. There are many fire=related groups in Germany and Switzerland that have weekend "oldtimer" get-togethers, often with a parade along with marching bands through a city and-of course, a large tent for a meal plus gigantic steins of beer!
Gents, this is indeed a Metz TL (DL17) from 1939. Served at Kleve town.Discovered by the firemen from Kalkar in 1975 during an exercise at a milk factory in a nearby town (Appeldorn) When Kalkar planned the 50th anniversary they were thinking of the old machine and the owner agreed to loan to the brigade. Later they can buy the TL for a symbolic figure of 1 DM (1989), Well the renovation started and the rest is history... all what I can say one nice machine. Orginal numberplate was KLE-244. (info from the Kalkar FS website)
