Ben Cooper was a car and commercial garage at Claydon near Ipswich with coachbuilding shop. They also had a fuel wholesale / retail business under the brand "Little David". S&IFS had a handful of their Commer Water Tenders.

Mysterious lack of locker door handles! An early example of push-to-open latches?

Our Whitson bodied water tender in Darlington also had its hose reels on the roof like this, but it had both a step and a grab handle to help reach up to them, which this unit lacks. Hopefully the tallest crew members were assigned the job of grabbing the reels?

This appliance is shown as SORN in November 2023. V5 issued in January 2004. My records show that it served at Bury St Edmunds and then as a works brigade appliance at ICI Bexford, Brantham. Last owner I show is Calvin Tooke of Martlesham near Woodbridge.

Nice example of a fire appliance body builder who found a handy way of using factory front doors on a Commer chassis. No need to fabricate custom doors on this example!
