Battenberg was the name of a noble family in Germany. The original family died out in 1310. THe name came from the town they lived in. The name was used again by a branch of the House Hesse-Darmstadt (Germany) in the mid 19th century. The English branch of the family changed the name to Mountbatten (Berg = mount) in 1917 for obvious reasons. I also do agree that this is totally O/T
