Great picture. Nicely illustrates just how a fire pump builder in 1986 could have easily installed a much larger water tank on this size of chassis without losing much useful storage space, if the engine and chassis gross weight could handle it.
This is a standard UK specification 1800 liter tank, but - as is common in Germany, France and other countries - a tank between 2400 and 3000 liters could have easily been accommodated if desired.
One feature of this design is the rearward sloping tank roof, to facilitate gravity feed for the main extension ladder to be mounted on top of it. This reduces tank capacity - and is unnecessary if the main ladder is carried on a powered gantry, which also makes restowing the ladder less of an effort.
First developed in the Netherlands, these were commonplace for many years and are now being adopted by UK fire appliance builders...
