Fire Engines Photos

Lovely picture petros But it wasn't at Duxford. I know this because my father owned this machine at the time. He bought it, from a scarp yard, in 1976 and spent the next 3 years restoring it, then we as a family rallied it for many years and. We still own the old girl and have just started to work on her again to get her back up to this standard. Unfortunately my father died earlier this year so to get this old girl back on the rally scene will be a fitting tribute. As for the picture I think it might have been taken at Deltafire (Twickenham).

well spotted. I mis-labelled a few photos over the weekend as Duxford 1985 when in fact they were Deltafire at Twickenham 1986. I did wonder why there was a building in the background that did not quite look like a Duxford hanger. In fact it was the old Twickenham rugby stands - see PRX picture.

Great photo, nicely illustrating just how basic the equipment was on a typical front line appliance back in the 50s and 60s. Anything out of the ordinary must have taxed the creativity of fire crews back then!
