Nice appliances these ERFs, I take it there was just 998 and 999 with Notts, I used to have a Corgi toy one as a kid! Does anyone know where in Notts they served, when and what as please? I know that 998 was at Retford as the Escape for a while but not much else so any other info would be appreciated thank you.

Hello SAL998F served at Retford for many years it was still there when I was at school near the station in 1978

SAL998F was at Retford 1968-1980, I don't know if it then spent some time as a reserve or was withdrawn. The other one (SAL999F) was at Workshop.

What has happened to this appliance as a DVLA check shows it not on the road since 1994 ?

SAL 998F Was the first Fire Engine I ever rode to an incident and the first one I ever drove to an incident. It was brand new to Retford and remained the first line appliance at that station for the whole of its working life. A real machine which could sort the men from the boys no fancy power steering just a huge steering wheel and massive road wheels needing some serious muscle. If you happened to miss a gear you were in big trouble. She was replaced by one of the first Dennis RS series in Notts KAL 699V. She was sold out of service into private ownership and did the rally circuit for a few years. She now resides in "The Hall Of Flame Museum" in Phoenix Arizona.
SAL 999F spent its life at "Newark" not "Worksop" latterly as a pump minus its escape ladder.

Thank you Mr Bayes for the info about SAL999F, it is also still around at Elescar now with an Escape on the back again.

Sadly this machine is no longer at Elsecar and now is some where in the Doncaster area, I did own this machine but through medical grounds I passed this on.

The Hall of Flame is an amazing museum, with an enormous collection. Last time I was there this ERF was unfortunately the only British representative.

It is great that it should be preserved in such a fine collection, but a classic Dennis F12 would be nice, too!
