The Diesel engine was fitted by Roy Yeoman many years ago - he then aqquired sister appliance STT 316 (primarily for its B60 engine) which used to be parked behind 319 in this location pictured . Roy passed away some years ago and I last saw this appliance in a yard in Bovey Tracy in Devon around 2008/9 by which time the Rolls Royce B60 (not B61) had been fitted - it was since on ebay and moved to South Yorkshire about a year ago I believe ?
I remember seen this at Dorset Steam Fair with I believe was a Ford 'D' series diesel and gearbox as the gear stick came out the top of the engine cowling, the traces still remain when I looked through the windows at Sheffield !

Actually, Rick, the B60 engine was taken out of 316 with the intention of putting into 319! The engine in 319 was seized and there were issues with matching up another engine with the standard gearbox. Using a non-standard box wouldn't have allowed for the pump PTO. Sadly Roy passed away before 319 was ever repaired and I can't seem to find where it went. The Ford engine and gearbox came from a scrapped lorry from Thompsons Transport. That gear stick was pretty funky!
Nick...if you mean you don't know where 319 went...its at the fire museum in Sheffield but kept in the open so her condition is poor!...the pump was removed from 319 to convert to a hose layer so the PTO would'nt have been needed surely ?...it follows that a 'Thompsons of Moretonhampstead' lorry would provide parts as Roy used to work for them !
Ah, I confused myself as I wrote it! I meant to say that the engine and gearbox in 316 were seized when the vehicle was bought. The engine from 319 was removed and the Ford unit put in as 319 didn't need the PTO but 316 did. That engine was wrapped up in plastic and kept under a hedge with the intention of fitting it to 316, but sadly Roy passed on before it ever happened. I'm assuming wherever 316 went, the engine went too, unless it was put back into 319 when it was sold off. I'd managed to find out about 319 being saved. At least it's somewhere where it'll be eventually be given the work it needs! I'd love to know what became of 316. I hope it wasn't a sad end.
Now in under-cover storage near Sheffield and there are very positive plans by the National Emergency Services Museum for a full restoration in the not too distant future. I am sure that the much missed Roy Yeoman would be very pleased.
