1985 FSPG Bristol Docks. Can anybody explain the operation of the rear frame to get the heavy ladder off the roof. An early version of the Angus Sacol beam gantry?

Hi, those Merryweather ladders were very heavy. The ladder was pulled back and the head of the ladder engaged in the gantry, which then lowered it to near the ground. When stowing the ladder, you placed the head in the gantry and springs inside the gantry helped to lift the ladder to roof level.
