The Land Rover is thought to be the first such vehicle in this country,unless anyone else knows differently.
In Bath City days it wes called an Emergency Equipment Vehicle.

Bristol Bob,unsure what you mean when you say you think this was the first such vehicle.This Landrover dates from 1961 and was actually known as a RAV(Road Accident Vehicle)which was simular to an Emergency/Rescue Tender.It was a Landrover 109 with Carmichael bodywork and was a dual purpose Rescue Tender/Lighting Unit and was allocated to Cleveland Bridge Fire Station,Bath.
Landrover's being used as rescue tenders dates back well before 1961 though.The Rover Company introduced its first Landrover back in 1949 and what is beleaved to have been the first Landrover Rescue Tender went to the City of Bristol Fire Brigade(reg-PHY 205)as a rescue tender at its St Andrews Fire Station,Avonmouth as far back as 1952 and served as a rescue tender until going out of service in 1965.

Pete,thanks for your comments,however,the Land Rover WAS called an emergency equipment vehicle,i have Bath annual reports to confirm this.It is a 1961 Carmichael conversion,and i still believe this to be the first such vehicle.
The Bristol land rover was a wireless vehicle,Bristol did not have a Land Rover rescue tender until 1968.
Further,the book by Dr Roger Snook,"medical aid at accidents" also refers to this as an EEV,Dr Snook was one of the first doctors to be involved in the setting up of a scheme where doctors went to incidents.
I think that the RAV you refer to could have been the Oxfordshire Commer walk thru van.

Pete,i have found your source of information,don't believe everything you read.
A soft top land rover with a few bits in the back is not a purpose built rescue tender as the Bath one is.

Thanks for putting the facts straight Bob,sometimes I do get abit carried away whilst doing a little research.Maybe I need something else to do instead of reading books,and still not getting it right.

Thanks Pete,you do seem to have a vast amount of information,but we should never overlook local knowledge,however,if anyone DOES know of an earlier such vehicle,i would be most interested to know of it.
