BACV 45 MLX 45L. Second of four MLX44-47L. 44 served at Shoreditch, 45 at Croydon, 46 at Edmonton and 47 at Wimbledon. No idea though of disposals.

Actually,this vehicle dates from 1973 and yes there were four.The London Fire Brigade purchased 4 Ford Transits in 1971 for use as BACV's,another four in 1972,one going as a Hi-Ex Foam Unit,the other 3 going as BACV's,and then in 1973 another four Ford Transits were purchased,and again these went as BACV's.The later(1973)went out of service in 1983.
The London Fire Brigade went on to purchase another 8 Ford Transits between 1979/80,seven went as Divisional Control Units,and one went as a(FIU)Fire Investication Unit.

MLX 46L appears to have been preserved. No info about the other units, so they've most likely been scrapped.

LFB had 11 divisions at this time & the F div had JLT 41K based at Poplar F22 which was replaced by a MK2 long wheelbase, then a Bedford CF demountable followed by a Dodge/renault chassis then Volvo F series

Was that a light on the back of the roof? A unique LFB way of identifying BACVs, or a normal feature of these types of units everywhere?

It is the normal british red white chequer marking for a control unit of one sort or another. Not usual to see it as a light but illuminated domes were used too. See picture 35560

So I guess this probably had a yellow bulb in the ID light?

Ed: I think yellow and black came later for BA.
