Wrexham open day, taken 20th June 1982. Was preserved by a Clwyd firefighter at Deeside fire station. I am sure others here will know the story after 1982.
A classic local appliance. Only two Flintshire appliances in preservation now it is believed after the demise of GDM 507. BDM 308 was purchased by Hawarden UDCFB in 1938 for £308. The first and only fire station in Hawarden was sited in an old garage where no.8 Wouldcourt now stands. The first professional CFO was Mr A.R George appointed just brfore the war came from Wolverhampton Fire brigade and as war broke out the retained personnel were seconded to a garage on Queensferry crossroads and placed on wholetime duties. Checkpoint car parts now own the still erect site. The fire station in Wouldcourt remained retained throughout the war and again when returned to local authority control in 1948. Hawarden closed in 1962 when the Connah's Quay fire station on Church Street closed and moved to it's current site on Chester Road West in Queenferry. The Leyland arrived from the manufactures with an Ajax wooden ladder and after reallocation to Flint in 1962 she aquired the escape some time after. After being sold by Clwyd Fire Service, Tommy Hollis of Garden City aquired the vehicle and kept up the marvelous work on restoring her before his untimely death in 2003
