ERF 85' HP Newport Gwent FB South Wales

I know the exact date of this photo as it was the first day of my honeymoon... 24th August 1980! How our families suffer for our passions. Newport was one of the yellow brigades like York, Coventry and Wallasey. It became part of Gwent in 1974 and Gwent itself was later absorbed in South Wales FRS.

Please can anyone help with information regarding this appliance. Newport operated a Coventry Fire Brigade Yellow livery I always assumed that this ERF was supplied in traditional red livery and then repainted to yellow. I have recently come across some photos taken in Newport during thought, 1969 if this was the case it would mean that this appliance was one of the first in country to be supplied in yellow livery. Also on the theme of Newport can anyone shed any light on the first yellow appliance again can I assume it may have been the Dennis F.15 operated by the brigade which was new during the fifties in total red livery this was re-panelled in hammer finish alloy (stucco) with the remaining appliance being painted yellow. Any Newport personnel past or present must have some knowledge of these placements.

To place further comments about Newport I was surprised to see that their Land Rover Safara was painted in yellow does anyone have any photos of this vehicle and the reg number. To anyone viewing this website please go to You tube-Isle of Wight (Newport) scroll down it will come up as Newport South Wales to see excellent Cine-film of Newport Borough with all of the yellow pumps in a full station line up! Including a Morris LD40 Foam Carrier don't miss it! look out for the Dennis f.49 Emergency Tender in Yellow in action at an exercise at the oil refinery in wales and another appliance thought AEC/Merryweather/Escape with two ajax ladders side by side?

If you go on you tube and type in exactly Fire Service - Newport_1 you will get to where you need to be a bit quicker , also there is a bit on the refinery , same as above but substitute 1 for 2

Coventry Fire Brigade first placed the yellow livery on the run in late 1966 so Newport (Mon) were quite a few years behind them.

Dusty, The ERF H.P is on a F plate and this was supplied in 1968. Prior to this I have a photo of
the old Newport fire station next to the cinema
with the full line up but you can see the Dennis F.15 had been painted yellow. Coventry took delivery of their Dennis F.36s in January 1967 the first in new yellow livery.
