Fire Engines Photos

Barry, don't forget our 1956 Dennis/Metz 125' TTL that served Auckland City New Zealand faithfully for many years. This beautiful machine was preserved in Christchurch (NZ) with the Fire Service Historical Society but may have been re-located to the Museum of Transport and Technology in Western Springs, Auckland. Perhaps our New Zealand friends can help us out here, , , ,

Pavel, I was rather blinkered when I wrote the above, I was just thinking about the 125' TL's here in the U.K.

I am happy to confirm that the Dennis Metz is now at Motat in Auckland. It has been returned to it's original colour scheme and the RR engine has been fully reconditioned (ouch) The ladder systems have been overhauled and it works as well as it did when in service. The steering wheel is somewhat closer to the drivers seat than I remember it

125' seems pretty high, is the normal height for a TL or ALP around 30'?
Also, are there any 125' TL or ALP's still operational today?

the 125 refers to the height of the ladder in feet, modern TL/HP/ALP/CARP/etc are measured in meters and are mostlty around 30m in the UK although not all one example being RX57DJD, the BAA Heathrow ALP is 42m. Though 125 feet is 38.1 meters.

thanks for correcting me, I got the measurements of feet and meters muddled up.
I didn't know BAA operated ALP's,Is the Heathrow ALP the tallest in Britain?

I don't want to say yeas but I can't think of any others in the UK that are bigger than that, most ALP's are 32m in height. I believe the ALP for Heathrow is due to the size of the terminal now and the A380 are reasons I have heard mentioned for it's existence, probably will be the least used ALP in the UK though.

I can confirm that there is an ALP at Heathrow.
I csn say the cab is a Scania but the boom and body I do not know. It is able to reach over the top of an A380.

The Scania ALP at Heathrow is a 6x8 with a 42m boom by Bronto, the Bodywork was built by Angloco.
There is a picture of it on there web site.
