taken Lancaster Circus Queensway Birmingham 1974/5. It has just past to West Midlands FS. This fine fire station has a wide variety of appliances. Sadly now closed.
Would I be right in thinking then, that Ladywood and Ward End cover the area? Aston? What a shame, I can remember most bays full at one time. Should have seen it coming when they lost the TL off the strength.
I belive Aston,Ladywood,Bournbrook and Ward End cover the city centre. In Warwickshire there on about closing 7 fire stations(retained)then they go and buy 2 CARP's. This world has gone mad on health and saftey and cost cutting.
Yes, Andy, the city centre is now covered by Aston, Ward End, Highgate and Ladywood. The old building is, for now, still operational as WMFS's HQ and control centre. I also believe the Fire Investigation Team are based there. But there are no frontline appliances there any more.

That's right, Andy. Birmingham city centre is now covered by Aston, Ward End, Highgate and Ladywood - all two pump stations.
The old A1 building is, for now, still in use as the WMFS HQ and fire control. And I believe the fire investigation team are also based there, but sadly, no more frontline appliances.
Andy, not sure of their reg numbers, but one of Central's PRLs went to A1-Aston making them a two-pump station and the other went to C9-Hay Mills, making that a two-pump station also. But they could have been juggled around with Sedgley's pump. But I thought Sedgley recieved a brand-new Sabre shortly before the powers-that-be closed the station.
BU 05 DZH went to Sedgeley in 2005 to replace WMFS Sole Dennis Rapier (K978XOF).Sedgeley was only Retained station in WM so if it has gone Wholetime brigade officers struggle with the Retained concept, even after all these years 1977 plays on some minds!
This Wilsdon job must be one of the best examples of how to build an S type with a smooth integration from the factory cowl to the full width rear body.
This had to happen on this tender, because there was no rear seat to afford access - but many crew cab appliances could have benefited from this approach, instead of forcing the DPO and OIC to get in and out through the rear doors...
