this is Cambridge 1975 just outside the old Addenbrooke's hospital. This three point turn is tricky here because the road edge contains a small open conduit, called Hobson's Conduit, that used to be the main water supply into the city. Hence the firefighter leaning out of the window. They were responding to an AFA as they often did. The magnificent old hopital building is now part of the University.

As it was an open channel along the sides of the road (which was also used by horses) I can't imagine any people actually drinking from it!
Hobson rented horses out, but people had to let him decide which one they would get to use - hence the expression "Hobson's choice", or no choice at all...
