Wadhurst's Old Fire Station in Sparrows Green Road was first built in 1906.
Housed two pumps one behind eachother.
It substained Bomb damage in the Second World War but only slight, when the OIC at the time Station Commander Fred Hemsley was injured whislt on duty.
In 1971 the new Station was Opened at top of the High Street.

Fascinating picture, capturing the period.

The roof shingles(slates) - were they a composite material, perhaps incorporating asbestos ?

Thanks for showing this great group, to us.

Yes more your later on roof material. Very sadly this old station was pulled down shortly after station was closed.
So much looking forward to the completed restoration of the Bedford J5

Very tight fit! Reminds me of Darlington's bigger - but equally tight - four bay station on Borough Road, which was built in 1904.
