The line-up's perfect but the station? What have they done to it? Originally opened on 18th September 1953 as the new County of Flint Fire Service HQ on greenbelt land.The first purpose built fire station in Wales to be erected after the war. Amlwch on Anglesey was the second opening in 1954. The old Rhyl HQ building is still visible in the town as the main Post Office in Water Street. The original fire station opposite has been demolished. Appliances at the time were HDM 764 Commer QX WrT, GXM 211 Austin K4/Merryweather 60' TL, GDM 507 Dennis F7 PE and an Austin K2 ATV converted to ET.

Andy - Rhyl fire station, the 1953 version, was built by Breeze Bros, a local firm run by identical twin brothers, Gwilym and Emrys Breeze. The former was my uncle, and had a rather droll sense of humour - he doubled up as the local undertaker. They built many bungalows after the war as Prestatyn and Rhyl expanded in the boom. Hence the larger fire station.
