Sorry for my ignorance Danny, but what is this new variable crewing system all about?

Added by Dave Lewis on 04 October 2009.
Here at East Grinstead, the station is manned by Wholetime firefighters during the hours between 08:30 and 17:00, but is manned after and before those times by Retained firefighters.

Shoreham by Sea Fire Station has a slightly different manning system. The station is manned by Wholetime firefighters at the same time of day as East Grinstead but only Monday to Friday, with the Retained firefighters covering the weekends as well.

As for Haywards Heath, I'm not sure whether they have the same system as one of the others, or it has its own version. So I'll have to leave that open for someone else to add a comment.
