Only three years later in 1904 Merryweather delivered their first petrol engined self-propelled pump escape, with a PTO driven pump, a hose reel system and water tank, and the ability to carry a 50 foot wheeled escape ladder and a four man crew!

It went to the borough of Finchley, then not yet part of London.

By 1908 Dennis had launched their own petrol powered appliance with a centrifugal pump, a further major step in firefighting technology...
