FDNY 10 HOUSE

This fire station must be the most photographed station in the world. This is 10 House in Liberty Street, Manhattan, New York. This station has Ladder 10 and Engine 10 and is just a few yards from the site of the World Trade Centre. This station in New York with lots of other stations lost a number of firefighters when the Twin Towers collapsed on 9/11. The station has been rebuilt since 9/11.

'Ten House':-Both Engine Co10/Ladder Co10 were organized from Volunteer Fire Companies in 1865 and each had several homes before coming together at their present quarters in Liberty Street in the Borough of Manhattan in 1984.
The'Ten House'is one of only 2 firehouses within the FDNY that have apparatus that are numbered the same, the other being Engine Co52/Ladder Co52 at 4550 Riverdale Ave in the Borough of the Bronx.
Ten House suffered significant damage and was nearly destroyed on September 11,2001 but although it was unable to be used as a firehouse following the collapse of the towers, during the early days of the rescue and recovery operations and clean up of the site the firehouse was used as a rest and recuperation station,as well as a command post for all the departments operations on site.

As well as fire appliances, I really enjoy looking at fire stations too. New York's fire houses have always held a particular fascination to me, even though they are a little hard to find in books or on the web.

Does anyone know where I can find photos of FDNY fire houses? Cheers now.

YelpBullhorn/FDNY Information. In reference to your request on FDNY Firehouses and anyone who is generally interested in the New York City Fire Department, then try first looking at this site.....flickr.com/photos/timothywildey/sets..... some good old pictures of the apparatus / FDNY Museum / Randells Island Training Academy / Super Pumper System, etc. Its well worth a visit.
Anyone interested in just looking at fire stations should just enter on there search engine.....FDNY Firehouses......press search. It comes up with page, after page, after page of interesting pictures, especially from New York City and the FDNY.
I hope you all find something of interest on the FDNY.'HAVE A NICE DAY'-Pete.

Pete Matten, I know I asked the question a couple of years ago, but I thought I should share with you a recent discovery! I don't claim to be the first to have done it, so the 'discovery' is purely self-indulgent.

Using a helpful and relatively accurate downloaded file on Google Earth containing all of New York's firehouse addresses, I zoomed in and then by using 'street view', I have managed to have a nose at all-but-three of NY's firehouses. It took a while but, if I do say so myself, it was two days well spent!!! So have a nice two days!

For others interested in US city fire stations, the Portland Fire & Rescue site (portlandonline.com/fire/) has photos and equipment rosters for each of the 30 stations. Ditto for Washington, DC (dcfd.com, 33 stations).

Hi Pete! I have seen a advertisement for a book with Firehouses in New York! But, I cant remember who the publisher is!
