Fire Engines Photos

Its a Shand Mason single cylinder 1876 vintage..believed to be the last one of its type still capable of pumping....now transported on a Merc fire appliance. Operated by the Heritage Group of Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service (of which I am the Hon Secty)

Lessee, this Pump is 132 years old; and still chugging - gotta be a Lesson here, somewhere, for our "Disposable Culture" (<;]

Great shot, of a real beauty of an Apparatus - Big Congrats to all the volunteers, and donors, and all their time; that have kept her operational, and in such good shape.

Any more details on her?

Time to raise steam, working boiler pressure (fire tube or water tube type ?),
pump out-put, fuel consumption (sacks of coal per hour?), all-up weight, etc

I will guess that the motive-power must be about 2 horse's power !!

Most of us have never experienced a live Steam Fire-Engine - only as museum exhibits and photos - so we would a bit of the hot and grimey side......

The Dennis is no more, it is now transported on a former Mercedes appliance turned ino a beavertail.
