DESCRIPTION: To prepare for the commissioning of two new super jumbo Airbuses A380, a double-deck passenger aircraft, Fire Services Department has taken a proactive step of acquiring two brand new Jackless Snorkels for the Airport Fire Contingent. Each Snorkel is equipped with an advanced infrared camera, a set of hydraulic booms, and a hydro-chem nozzle. Besides, the Snorkel is also equipped with a piercing nozzle that can pierce through the fuselage and discharge water spray or foam to lower the temperature of the cabin in fire, enhancing our capability in combating aircraft fires and effecting rescue.

This is a Scania P124GB 6x4 chassis with a 420 bhp diesel engine and a cp19 cab. The snozzle has a maximum reach of 10.5m and an overall height of 15.25m ( including the height of the vehicle ) and is operated from the cab , its fitted with an infrared camera and halogen spotlights . The body carries a 6000 ltr water tank and a 720 ltr foam tank , the water pump can use 5000 ltr/min. Its one of two identical appliances at Hong Kong international airport ( the other is R34 ). The boom is similar to the Rosenbauer Stinger, which was initially developed for airfield crash trucks and is now pretty widespread on these kind of appliances.
Two of these have now been placed into service on two otherwise pretty standard 18 ton municipal pumpers in the UK, in the hope that they will make structure firefighting safer and easier, especially in industrial buildings without windows and in tackling roof fires.
