Crawley Mercedes Crash Tender
This Mercedes 917AF/Mountain Range Crash Tender G265 VBP was new to Crawley in 1990 and is seen here in original condition in April 1992.
It was later reliveried in West Sussex Red & White livery & had a blue & orange light bar added behind the cab. It moved to Horsham in 1996 (replacing Range Rover RT TPO 514M) when P829 JPO HRT was delivered to Crawley. G265 VBP was withdrawn in 2004, sold and converted into a 4x4 rally vehicle and took part in the Dakar Rally from Jan 1st - 15th 2006.
Ir replaced the unusual Reynolds/Chubb CrT JPO 646P which was at Crawley from 1776 - 1989, Dennis D WTL GBP 998N acting as a tempory CT until 1990 when G265 VBP went on the run.

I have just sent in picture of this appliance when it went out of service in 2004 photographed at the Amberley Fire Show in 2004 in the later West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Livery.
Jon,did you manage to take any pictures of the old Dennis'D'Series appliances before they all went out of service?.I'm most interested in that period in time of the old brigade.Thanks,Pete.
