Somerset Dennis F25
Hope I'm not stealing Bristol Bob's thunder this is another photo from his collection and is reproduced with his permission. It shows the rear end of the Dennis F25 Water Tender YYB762 from Nailsea at the same incident in 1971 as the recent photos uploaded by Bob showing the Bedford J type and Green Goddess. The Green Goddess is parked on the right of the picture where the onlookers are looking. I presume the chequered flag means this appliance is the control point? or perhaps it won the race to get to the incident first!!! I would guess this machine arrived after the Green Goddess and Bedford J type from Portishead as it is not set in. The tea cups are a nice addition on top of the pump cover.

Wonderful collection of photos. Thank you both Paul and Bob for sharing them with us. On the subject of tea cups Paul, I was informed by an ex retained member in Abergele, that during the 1976 drought, Abergele were running a Bedford J4/HCB WrT WUN 73, and under the back seat next to the batteries they stored three Watney's party packs. Good old days. HSE watch out.

I thought thats why Somerset had L4V's on every station so that at working job someone could pop back to a local shop and pick up a few liquid refreshments in cans. Unless of course it was a barn fire and being in Somerset the farmer decided to crack open a barrel of his homemade scrumpy cider to quench the crews first. Happy days long gone though.

Yes, high jinx were the order of the day. History repeating. The old days when firemen were paid in liquid renumeration.
