pat, this vehicle was used as a Hose reel tender or personnel vehicle,a rotary pump supplying water from the 150imp.gallon to the low pressure hosereel. It could be supplemented from a hydrant or tanker supply. The lockers contained hydrant and hose gear plus chimney and other small gear, beaters for grass fires would have been carried also . This vehicle was one three in the brigade and were attached to stations with a major pumping appliance. They used to "fly"but had terrible brakes!Regards to Canada,i had a month touring your wonderful country in 1994 realising an ambition upon my retirement.

Alan; thanks for the info, and 'beater' is the word that I was trying to think of, elsewhere, for the flappy things on a stick that you flail away at grass-fires with.
Good on you, making it to Canada - rather a lot of country, isn't it.....I had lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia and my sole sibling lived in Vancouver, British Columbia; so, the directions for a family visit were fairly easy....I simply had to drive 46 miles(75 km) to Truro and turn left onto the Trans-Canada Highway at Exit 15W... then turn right at Exit 27, off the same highway onto 1st Avenue, Vancouver, and I was there.... some 3,400 miles(5,500 km) and four(4) Time Zones later !!
Were there Hose Connections behind the rear locker doors? or did she just run with the Booster Reel, Water Tank and Rear Pump ?
Regards, from Canada,
