It's a nice appliance to ride on.Why the Australian fire brigade prefer to use Japanese origin vehicle like this Toyota Landcruiser.

Bomba Boy, the Toyota Landcruiser 4x4 have proven over the years to be the most reliable vehicle of this type in Australia for fire fighting purposes. Going back in the 1960's and early 1970's the Landrover was the choice of vehicle but Toyota steadily took over. There are some of the latest model Landrover operating in the outer metropolitan areas attached to what we use to call the Bush Fire Brigade which have now been all taken over by the Western Australia Fire and Emergency Services (FESA). These vehicles are coloured white. I am not an authority in this area so perhaps someone that is could post some photos. They also have a very impressive fleet of Isuzu fire applicances which would be nice to see here.

Pavel you are partially correct. However the Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade is still around with their white vehicles. The Isuzu appliances are known as 3.4, 4.4, 9.2 etc. The first number being the amount of water (litres) in the thousands (3.4 has 3000L) and the second is the amount of wheel drive (3.4 4 wheel drive). The Light tanker is great to use, it is the only appliance that can reach a fire directly. The are only used commonly in Western Australia due to the bush type. They are very important and this form of vehicle (the toyota) has been proven to be durable, light and small enough to be able to access the flames, as stated before, directly. Light Tankers make up the fleet of every western Australian fire brigade

Australia was Toyota's very first export market, and the Land Cruiser was the reason.

The Land Rovers just could not stand up to the local conditions, and their owners were desperate for a similar vehicle which would not continually break down.

Kuwait, where I ran the Toyota and Lexus importer for several years, was their second export market, for exactly the same reason. Starting with two Land Cruisers sixty two years ago, the company now sells over 50, 000 Toyota vehicles a year...
